Read first, then reply
Before you reply, ideally you have read through the ongoing discussion in the thread. If you don't have time to read through 20 pages, it is sufficient to refer to the first post that started the topic. It helps the other members to understand the context if you point out whether you followed the discussion or not.
Replying on topic
In a lively discussion, it can be easy to drift off topic. Minor digressions are fine as long as the topic doesn't permanently go in a completely different direction. When discussing, always keep in mind that there should still be a reference to the original topic. A good method is to return to the topic after small digressions at the end of the post.
It's not what you say, it's how you say it.
We are a community with multifaceted members, so different opinions are bound to occur and discussions can get a bit heated. However, as soon as it becomes personal, you should direct the discussion to Clubmail. In our community, tolerance and mutual respect are the cornerstones for a pleasant coexistence, therefore you should behave yourself in a discussion.
Text design
Smileys
While reading you might have noticed that we like to use smileys a lot. For almost every occasion you will find a suitable one, just click on "Smiley list" below the text window on the right and start browsing. By the way, the list can also be searched.
Text formatting
You can use the following commands for text formatting:
-
bold text or *bold text*
-
underlined text or +underlined text+
-
italic text or _italic text_
-
quote
-
text size
-
text color
Note: To make reading your post as pleasant as possible for other members, please use the possibilities of text formatting consciously and avoid writing a text with e.g. a lot of capital letters, because this reads like a scream.
Links
To insert a link, simply copy the address into the text. Internal links to other pages in JOYclub are automatically recognized by our system and replaced by a meaningful title. For external links please refer to our community guide.
Pictures
To add an image to your post, click on "Attach image" below the post and select your desired image from your hard drive.
1. Click Save Post and the image will automatically be added to the end of your post.
2. Click on the button "Preview". This will create an image code in preview mode - you can find it directly below the small preview image - which you can copy and paste anywhere in your post. Then click on "Save post".
This way you can position your image anywhere in the running text. You can also assign a caption to your image.
Videos
You can easily add videos from video platforms to your posts by inserting the link to the video in the text. For YouTube and Vimeo videos, the video will automatically be embedded in your post after you submit it. By the way, this video embedding is not yet visible in the preview.
How can I quote another discussion participant?
You can quote a previous poster directly, including their username. If you are in "Post" mode, it is sufficient to simply highlight the desired text passage in the previous post and then click directly on the quote button (right above the post window). The text does not have to be copied to the clipboard and pasted into your own text, but the marked text passage is automatically copied into your own post as a quote together with the name of the previous post.
The result will look like this:
