JOYclub stands for diversity and sex positivity.
That's why we offer our members the option to detail their own sexual identity in their profile.
Important basic definitions:
Trans woman: A person who was assigned male at birth but lives as a woman.
Trans man: A person who was assigned female at birth but lives as a man.
In line with their sexual and gender self-image, trans* members can choose from the following options for entry type and gender:
- Transsexual - Trans woman/Trans man
- Transsexual - Woman/Man
- Non-Binary - Non-Binary
- Transgender - Trans woman/Trans man
- Transgender - Woman/Man
- Transvestite - Man
The entry type can be adjusted in the profile settings or via support.
Members who identify as transgender or transsexual are listed in JOYclub according to their sexual self-image.
Trans women can therefore be registered as women and trans men as men, regardless of the status of their gender reassignment in the medical or legal sense.
The terms transgender and transsexual are used synonymously in JOYclub and can be chosen according to individual preference.
Generally, the term “transsexual” is more based on the binary gender system and refers to the categories of man/woman. When trans* people use “transsexual” as a self-designation, it can express that their gender identity is the “opposite gender” to the one assigned at birth. The term is also increasingly found in medical, psychological, and legal contexts.
Transgender refers to the English word for social gender “gender”. The reference to the social category is meant to express that people who have a different gender identity than male or female can also identify with it. The term emerged in the 1970s when trans* people became more visible in public. It bridged a gap between the medical term “transsexual”, which only recognised two genders, and the term “transvestite”, which referred to temporarily living as the other gender.
According to JOY understanding, both terms refer to an intended alignment of one's own gender to permanently match the sexual self-image.
Non-Binary: Non-binary or nonbinary people do not (or do not fully) identify as male or female, but for example, as both at the same time, between male and female, or as neither male nor female. An example of a non-binary identity is genderqueer. Nonbinary is also inclusive of intersex people.
Another option is to register a profile as a Transvestite/Man. Transvestites are people who feel the need to dress contrary to their gender – often men who dress as women. This can be meant as a role or costume. It can be linked to a fetish or kink. This registration is suitable when no gender alignment is intended and only temporarily (or outwardly) adopting another gender. In JOYclub, crossdressers, lingerie wearers (DWT), and sissies are grouped under transvestites.
